Housing and America’s Future

On Monday, February 12, 2007, the Furman Center hosted Jonathan Fanton, President for the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, for a major policy address, including an announcement that the MacArthur Foundation will invest $25 million in new research to build and deepen our knowledge about the ways that housing affects children, families, and communities.
Fanton’s remarks were followed by a panel of housing experts including: Shaun Donovan, New York City Commissioner for Housing Preservation and Development; Sandra Newman, Professor and Director of Johns Hopkins University’s Institute for Policy Studies; Denise Scott, Managing Director of Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), New York City; and moderated by Ingrid Gould Ellen, Co-Director of the Furman Center and Associate Professor of Public Policy and Urban Planning at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
