State governments are increasingly stepping in to require or encourage municipalities to expand housing supply as the housing shortage creates a cost burden for millions of Americans. The NYU Furman Center’s Land Use Reform Tracker is a resource designed to provide researchers, state lawmakers, city officials, the media and others with a database they can use to gain a deeper understanding of how the land use policy landscape is changing nationally.

The Tracker also offers up-to-date collections of research and commentary about the legislation, information about how the reform is being implemented, and about litigation and other reactions to the reform.

Drawing from the NYU Furman Center’s Land Use Reform Tracker, this series of research and policy briefs compared state approaches across four categories of land use reform: (1) planning requirements, (2) the builder’s remedy, (3) procedural reforms and (4) leveraging faith-owned parcels.
